“She carries more than her own weight. She carries love, loss, and responsibility—alone.”
On this International Widows Day, we at the Ruth Mbuarrey Foundation pause to honor the courage, strength, and silent sacrifices of widows everywhere. Widows are often forced to carry the weight of two people; mother and father, provider and protector, comforter and caregiver. They pay the school fees, cook the meals, sew the torn clothes, pay the hospital bills, and tuck their children into bed, while grieving a love they can never replace.
And yet, society often looks away.
No woman deserves to walk through widowhood alone. Losing a spouse is more than losing a partner, it is losing a part of yourself. To ask a grieving heart to also carry the full burden of a household is a quiet cruelty the world must acknowledge and end.
